Gold traders are bullish for a fourth week

Gold traders are bullish for a fourth week, the longest run since the bear market began in April, as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said he’ll maintain stimulus if growth misses expectations. Gold is heading for the first annual drop in 13 years after some investors lost faith in the metal as a store of value. The Fed chairman said last week the U.S. still needs stimulus, after saying on June 19 that bond buying could slow if the economy improves. Bullion’s plunge to a 34-month low spurred demand for jewelry and coins, and demand from China is “incredibly strong,” Standard Chartered Plc said.

Bullion reached a record $1,921.15

Bullion reached a record $1,921.15 an ounce on Sept. 6  2011 and has been profitable to export even after shipping fees because of “the capacities and cost competitiveness of overseas smelters,” took Iwanaga. “Countries that are buying up gold are places where real interest rates are negative,” said Itsuo Toshima, an independent analyst who has researched global markets including gold for about 30 years and was formerly the Japan director of the World Gold Council.

In China, the biggest gold-jewelry consumer, inflation is eroding the value of bank deposits, prompting investors to seek returns in bullion. Gold makes up 1.6 percent of China’s foreign-currency reserves, compared with the 11 percent world average, Nicholas Brooks of ETF Securities said Dec. 2.

Gold is worth the risk?

Gold is worth the risk?Precious metal Gold has many attributes that investors want, and it has been one of the few assets to deliver positive returns since 2005.One of the most perplexing questions facing investors these days is what to make of gold. With the cracks in the global financial system seemingly growing wider, and gold prices in the midst of a decade-long rally, more investors are wondering, do I buy? Sell? Wait until later?

With the listing of the SPDR Gold Shares, then called the StreetTRACKS Gold Trust, exchange traded fund (GLD) in November 2004, questions about gold have become more pressing. Prior to the fund’s launch, there really was no convenient way to invest in gold, and so few investors owned it. Those who wanted to speculate traded futures, and the true believers stashed coins in their attic.

Now, there is $2.1 billion in Gold Shares traded every day and it is the second largest U.S. ETF by assets -- $68 billion as of October 31. Several copycat ETFs – including the iShares Gold Trust (IAU), the ETFS Physical Shares Gold Trust (SGOL), and the ETFS Physical Asian Gold Shares (AGOL) – have sprung up to tap into the demand for gold, proving the old adage that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Silver Lake Resources

Investor interest in Silver Lake Resources is due to the company delivering a string of bumper results recently, and just last week confirmed grades of up to 45% copper, 5.5 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold and 256g/t silver at the Hollandaire project, which lies within the Eelya complex, part of bigger Murchison project.

Importantly, these assay results confirm Hollandaire as a high grade copper deposit that also contains gold and silver. The mineralisation remains open in all directions and at depth.

The halt will last until the earlier of announcement being made to the market, or the opening of trade on Wednesday 16 November.

Platinum and Palladium

Platinum and palladium is currently providing a very large profit margin gains on the trade, when gold prices continues to rally and silver prices to hover, prices platinum and palladium are also make gains well. Platinum appears to be chasing gold, gaining $18 today while palladium gained $15, to trade at $661. The platinum group metals are obviously affected more by the strength of the industrial sector but they also obey the laws of supply and demand and these are definitely working in their favor at the moment. Demand for palladium, for example, is expected to rise by almost 6% each year for the rest of the decade while supplies look to be threatened by 2015, if not sooner.

"There is growing investment interest in the industrial metals," says Bill Hionas, CEO of Pan American Metals of Miami. "They do not react in the same way as gold, since their dependence on industrial demand makes them subject to the ups and downs of the economy. However, we have seen increases in car sales recently, particularly from the emerging economies of Asia and this has been reflected in increased demand for platinum and palladium."

Gold benefits

Changing leaders both in Greece and Italy doesn't change the fiscal situation and leaves us with a period of uncertainty," said Ole Hansen, senior manager at Saxo Bank. Holdings of the largest gold-backed exchange-traded-fund (ETF), New York's SPDR Gold Trust, gained nearly 1 percent from Monday to Tuesday, while those of the largest silver-backed ETF, New York's iShares Silver Trust, dipped 0.12 percent for the same period.
